Sharing stories and stunning illustrations reminds me of the good things in life and always lifts my spirits. Even during the longest and loneliest of lockdown days, reading books with my son brought light, beauty and hope to our lives. The same goes for our pre-covid life too – reading books with my baby was a source of joy to me when I was a sleep-deprived new mother, and we read together as we grew together.
Reading with a child always feels like something positive and productive to do, even when the house is a mess and especially when the world outside seems even more messy and chaotic. I strongly believe that books and reading can improve lives, as well as provide a much needed balm for the soul. If I can introduce you to some uplifting new books and help to bring a little more joy to your life with your family then I will be happy. I am not an expert, just another reader and a mother sharing books that I have enjoyed reading with my son, which I hope you will enjoy too.
I have always loved books and libraries have always provided a sanctuary for me. So much so that I pursued a career working in libraries for over 10 years and trained as a librarian before my son was born. One of the things I was looking forward to most about becoming a mother was the excuse to read beautifully illustrated children’s books everyday! Despite many of my other naive ideas about motherhood being shattered, this one has thankfully become a reality and there really is something so special and heart-warming about reading with my son. I treasure the moments we share reading together and they always provide me with a renewed sense of hope and inspiration. I hope you find some inspiration here too.
For the love of books,
Helen
